 Heat wave in İzmir... 15.09.2008
The third racing week of the 2008 Turkish Track Championship which is organized by the Turkish Motor Sports Federation (TOSFED) and which is composed of six laps took place at the Autodrom Izmir Track. Despite the parching heat, thousands of motor sports fans came to watch the competition of strong cars. Also the lucky ones among those motor sports fans that came to watch the races had the chance to sit next to the Opel Performance drivers and had a tour around the track which was a great excitement.
Opel Performance Turkey which ended the previous season as the brand championship raced with their drivers Berke Bayındır and Alptekin Işıkalp in Super Group in the fifth and sixth races of the season held at the weekend. Berke Bayındır, the talented driver that increases his tempo each day completed the first race of the day as the second under the extreme heat. On the other hand, his teammate Alptekin Işıkalp ranked the third.
In the second race of the day while Aytaç Biter and Berke Bayındır were having a bumper to bumper competition, two cars hit each other and Berke Bayındır’s Opel Corsa had a spin and went off-track. The Opel Performance driver Berke Bayındır who pulled himself together quickly went back to the race; however, he ranked the second. Aytaç became the first as in the first race and two Opel drivers Berke and Alptekin ranked second and third respectively.
With these results, Opel Performance carried on being the leader in Track Brand Championship and in the drivers’ class, two Opel drivers Berke and Alptekin kept their ranks. The seventh and eighth races of the season will take place at the Autodrom Izmir Racing Track on September 27-28.
