Turkey Rally Championship
Rallies are races which consist of more
than one lap and in which pilot and co-pilot race together. They
start off a certain point and end at a certain point and they are
speed and endurance races against time. They are run in various
cars pertaining to various groups and classes and run on different
grounds (soil, macadam, asphalt, snow). General classification is
obtained according to the total of special laps standings. With
fines added, the team having the least time is the winner.
What is pilot and co-pilot? What are their jobs?
Pilot is the one who drives the car.
He has to go fast while taking care of his car. He dictaets route
notes to his co-pilot during warm-up drives. Co-pilot prepares the
pilot for the road pre-reading those notes in a synchronised manner.
He is also responsible for being at the referee table as written
in the time-chart. Therefore, no mistake should be made in calculation
of times. At the same time, he has to check the route in order not
to lose the way
What is a special lap?
It is a speed lap which is run against
time and on a route strictly closed to traffic. General classification
of the race is reached when the total time of special laps is calculated.
Warm-up tours may be run on special laps before the race. On a special
lap, if a driver starts off before the signal of the referee, he
gets 10 seconds for the first time, 1 minute for the second time
and 3 minutes for the third time for his fault-depart. If repeated
again, sport commissary is to decide.
What is a Normal Lap?
They are the transfer laps when passing
special laps. One has to reach a special lap in average time of
60 km/s in normal traffic and by the traffic rules. One has to come
by the referee table in given time and has his time chart signed.
Of one arrives before his time, he is punished by "early time".
Generally 1 minute to one min. fine is added to special lap time.
If arrived at the referee table late, then one gets delay fine.
In short rallies, it is 10 seconds to 1 min.
Cars to Participate in Rallies and Groups/Classes
Cars which contain safety measures as
stated in the rule book and which are on the homologation list by
FIA can participate. Rally cars are classified under two main groups,
Group N (mass production) and Group A (touring cars, including WRC)
according to their motor capacities. Furthermore, apart from Group
A and Group N, drivers obtaining the max. points in F2 (2 wheel
drive, 1601-2000 cc atmospheric motor cars) and F3(2 wheel drive
max. 1600 cc. Atmospheric motor cars) classifications become group
leaders in Turkey Rally. There are 8 different classification categories.
They are:
N1: up to 1400cc.
N2: between 1400-1600 cc.
N3: between 1600-2000 cc.
N4: bigger than 2000cc.
A5: up to 1400cc.
A6: between 1400-1600 cc.
A7: between 1600-2000 cc.
A8: bigger than 2000cc.
Note: Engine capacity of turbo-charge cars are multiplied by 1.7
coefficient.
What does homologation mean?
It is the official certification of
production standards of a car or an equipment. Homologation procedures
are carried out by FIA on a certain fee. Homologation validity period
of a racing car is 5 years after the production date. No one can
race in a car or with equipment without homologation in Turkey Rally
Championships stated in FIA Time-Table. No parts can be used in
racing cars without homologation.
