 We carry on leading the Turkish Track Championship... 30.07.2007
Fans who preferred going to the Gulf Track instead of a beach on a hot summer Sunday witnessed a breathtaking challenge at the race under the parching sun. This season Opel Performance attended the 5th and 6th races of the highly contested championship held at the end of the 3rd week with 3 cars.
In Group 2000 Berke Bayındır, getting the 3rd best time right after the rivals driving 2000 cc cars with his 1800 cc Corsa at the qualifying tours held on Saturday gave the signals of the highly challenging races on Sunday. Özen Özer taking steady steps towards the title in Group 1600 of this year hit the best time at the qualifying tours in his group as expected from him.
Berke Bayındır was on the podium as the third driver of the race with his Corsa 1800 in Group 2000 at the end of the challenging struggle at the 5th race of the Turkish Track Championship which is held as two different races at the weekend. On the other hand, in Group 1600 Özen Özer ranked the first for the fifth time after a long run this season.
At the second race held after the qualifying tours where the first 6 cars were lined up in reverse order the struggle among the drivers in Group 2000 in the first few tours was a great excitement for the spectators who came to watch the track races despite the high temperature. Berke Bayındır with his Corsa was the first driver to take the corner as soon as the race was started. Berke succeeded in taking the checkered flag ranking the 2nd after a breathtaking fight for the leadership.
The other young driver of Opel Özen Özer could make it to the podium as the first driver of the race for the sixth time in Group 1600 this season. Özen has never given up right from the beginning of the season and never missed the target in six races.
Trying to earn points with his Opel Vectra Alptekin Işıkalp was so close to becoming the 3rd of the race in Group Maxi, however he missed it. The young pilots of Opel got their trophies from Yüksel Erdemir, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of OMS.
At the end of these achievements Opel Performance Team keeps up leading the Turkish Track Championship. The 7th and 8th races of the season will take place at the Gulf Track again on Sunday, August 12.
