And here is the new unisex Corsa by Opel! 02.10.2006

The all-new Opel Corsa will be available in Turkey from November. Özcan Keklik, the Director of GM Turkey stated that “the car has had a more feminine look until now. The new line attracts a wider audience”.

The fourth generation of Opel’s popular model Opel Corsa had its debut in Dresden, Germany. In Turkey it will be on sale in November 2006 at the Istanbul Motor Show.

Özcan Keklik, the Director of GM Turkey who has become the first Turkish director in GM history nearly a month ago, stated that Opel will gain impetus in the internal market together with the new Corsa. Keklik’s opinion about the advantages of being a Turkish director for the company is as follows: “There will be a couple of changes for sure. Everyone has his own way of doing things and working. We are a very strong team at Opel and GM has always had a single strategy. I have been working at GM for 15 years. I have been in several positions in and abroad. I will combine my background knowledge with the advantages of being a Turk. What kind of a combination do I mean? Knowing the consumers well, understanding the dealer organization better and to get across with them, and comprehending their expectations will be my advantages for sure.” Keklik, on the other hand, stated that he is proud to be a Turk in the administration and as his teammates share this pride, expectations will get higher and thus they will move faster. Keklik added that “this moving faster would not mean taking risks but taking bold decisions which will contribute positively to Chevrolet`s, Saab`s, and Opel`s namely GM brands’ success in Turkey”.

Time for bold decisions

Keklik’s answer to what his bold decisions will be and whether he would present projects related to GM re-starting to manufacture in Turkey or not is as follows: `It is not possible for me to say such things at the moment. Yet I would be glad to share such news with you in the future. We have always been willing to lay such projects on the table. There will be a rapport for sure. The company did not lose its market share or anything related to its image when GM left Turkey as a manufacturer. However, Turkey is such an important market with its present manufacturers, infrastructure, and its promising nature that it will not lose ground. The launch of the new Corsa in Turkey will bring an impetus to us.` Keklik envisages that consumers will respond positively and he explains the reasons of his opinion: `The car does not have a radical design. This will cut down the reactions towards it. Corsa also has had a more feminine look until now. The new line will widen its audience. We have caught that Astra’s unisex look also in Corsa. This does not mean that we will discard women’s interest for Corsa. In Turkey women say the last word as they purchase something. However, women consult their husbands’ opinion about cars”. Keklik explained the similarities between the new Corsa and the rival models: `Safety is becoming more and more important each day. For example, the hood should have certain lines for passenger safety. Thus, this leads to some similarities. Also design has its own fashion. Opel team may favor the lines that rival designers also like.`

No going back to Agila

Upon the question related to the Opel’s need for a smaller car because of the new Corsa and whether they are planning to launch Agila again or not, Keklik said: “We are not planning to bring Agila back. Corsa will be our starting point again”. While Corsa was getting renewed, GM Turkey asked for automatic transmission. This demand was applied to the 1.4 Twinport with 90 hp. The version with the automatic transmission will be on sale from 2007. GM Turkey aims to sell 3 thousand new Corsas by the end of 2006 and 15 thousand new Corsas in 2007. Özcan Keklik, the Director of GM Turkey expressed his thoughts on the automotive industry in Turkey: “The stagnation in the market is relative. Although it seems that there is a 15% decrease when compared to the numbers of last August, it points out to really high numbers that have been observed only a few times in Turkish history. The first three months which went really fast should not be misleading in terms of the slowdown that happened due to the movement in the rates. We have similar predictions for the next year”. Opel will organize the world premiere of Astra Sedan in Istanbul Motor Show.

Personal information is stored in the key

The new three and five-door Corsas are being manufactured in Spain and Germany. The new Corsa will be available in Turkey with the 1.3 CDTi (75 and 90 HP9 and 1.4 Twinport (90 hp) engine options. The three-door Corsa looks like Astra GTC. (Length/height: 3.999, 1.488 mm). The personal music system, AC, and the car’s electronics system can be stored in the key. The 1.3 diesel engine consumes 4.6 liters of fuel in 100 kilometers. The Flex-Fix system -an integrated rear carrier, which stows neatly away into the back bumper-, can carry up to two bicycles. There are also additional rear lights.
